Paul and Tracy met preparing for the release of Paul’s solo acoustic album Prairie Stop in 2005. What started as a 3-song experiment has since blossomed into a fully engaged writing and performing effort.
Paul has been a guitar and songwriting teacher for over 20 years and draws musical influence from Dave Matthews, Shawn Colvin, Elliot Smith, and Leonard Cohen. Tracy grew up on classical Suzuki Violin, then developed her improvisational and song-writing ear playing pop, blues, and rock.
They share the role of lead vocalist, co-write all their original music, and can deliver it as a duo or with a full band behind them. Their recently released debut CD GAME (October 2007) is available for listening on CBC radio3, for purchase through Bullfrog Music, and for download on iTunes and other digital sites. Please see The Music page for a list of all outlets carrying GAME.
They entertain audiences regularly on and around Vancouver Island. By joining the Circle of Friends you'll receive notices of upcoming musical performances via e-mail. |

The Day After:
June 8, 2008 - Khona Cafe, Mahon Hall, Spiral Cafe Seems that Paul and I are on a mission to play in every coffee house in Victoria and Salt Spring. Why not? We've met some great new friends and have enjoyed many a caffeine buzz. At our Spiral Gig we were joined by Steve Sutton on string bass. Great rumble and grooves Steve! And, the Times Colonist article about Paul's "10 shocking truths about being a musician" brought in several who were curious about just what exactly Paul was going to reveal.
May 15, 2008 - Bill Stewart, Monday Magazine Bill reviewed our CD Game - "Mowbray and Mills' voices blend quite gorgeously, as do their delicate guitar and violin interweavings....All in all this is one sweet mellow listen, ripe for late nights or early mornings". More. Thanks Bill!
November 24, 2007 - Spinnaker's Brewpub Thanks to everyone for coming out to fill up Spinnaker's Brew Pub and listen so closely to our two sets! I'd like to mention names from the crowd, but there are too many and then I'd miss some and feel bad. So I'll just say what a pleasure it was for Tracy and I to play for you! Hey Lee, (Spinnaker's Manager) you went the extra mile by getting that board for the Tango dancers - thanks! And to Lilija, David, and Diane of Tango Pacifico, you can dance with us anytime. Me, I'm looking for a red hat now. A Podcast of the party is available on i-Tunes via BullFrog Music.
Tracy and I love to play our original music, and this time it went to a new level of fun with the addition of: Mr. Rhythm, Marc Jenkins on bass (Elephant Island and other bands); blistering and tasteful on the telecaster-Lonny Koch (owner of South Island Studios); a dash of Coltrane, the downtown sounds of Kris Covlin on sax; and making sure that it all sounded good, James Ross handling the sound system and the rhythm box. Big Hank played the harp with soul on Buffalo Skinner, so we asked him to do it twice. All you guys made it look easy, and my personal highlight was playing rhythm and listening to the solos while Marc grooved the bass along. And man Tracy's vocals sounded great with a band behind her. Searching for Service, indeed.
And good grief, watch our site for some upcoming video, Cat and Trevor videoed four tunes, and Jeremiah from Bullfrog Music did some audio recording. Good people all. Thanks everyone for the CD sales too. Tracy and I hope to see you next time! (Paul)
November 17, 2007 - Sooke Folk Music Society Bonus! Paul and I went to play, and ended up listening to several musicians who expressed themselves honestly and openly before a warm and supportive crowd. Thank goodness for community music, and for the hard working people (like Dave Gallant and so many others) who give it an outlet. When we took the stage it felt like we already knew the crowd, having been a part of it. We played Jazz, Blues, Pop, Funk and even a Tango - and the adventuresome and open-minded audience listened to it all. I think the "hit" of the night was our Tango Guilty of Change. Gene, thanks for joining us on Buffalo Skinner, and to all the others who bought CDs, clapped, snapped and sang along. We had fun, and hope you did too. (Tracy)
October 21, 2007 Steffich Fine Art Gallery - when people come and are intensely involved in listening and moving to the music I am a happy man, and so I was very happy at Matt's Fine Art Gallery (Steffich Fine Art) on Saturday. So many poets and painters in the crowd! Good old Salt Spring. Thanks Matt for being such a gracious and relaxed host, and Michele for the unbelievably good treats. With the right people everything is easy. Maybe there's a song in that! (Paul) What a lovely afternoon of musical talent and friends…in such an intimate warm environment. The Art Gallery acoustics were a perfect place to showcase Tracy and Paul's love of music and their talent in producing it. A HUGE thank you to all who donated to our very worthwhile cause GEMA (Giving Everyone Music and Art). We were overwhelmed by your generosity and many kids will now be benefiting from this fund! Thanks for providing such an enjoyable Saturday afternoon! (Michele, GEMA coordinator)
September 16, 2007 Khona Cafe- What a great crowd we played for last night! Andrew's Khona Cafe was full and happening and Miki the barista was in fine form. Special thanks to the BLUE PETER GANG (James Ross - so great you were there) wonderful to see you all (welcome back Linda!); and thanks to Cal for taking photos; and to Kent - a first timer - it was great to meet you. Other musicians in the crowd: Reid Jamieson and Carolyn Mill tapped their toes. Martina Haakenstad of the Victoria Conservatory took a break from rehearsing for her Cabaret this November to listen. To Paul's students and to the families who arranged babysitters to make the trip - thanks so much. We couldn't have asked for a better night - thank you ALL. (Tracy) |
